Program, Planning & Development

Since its founding in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has clearly distinguished itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African American family have evolved. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of:

  • Educational Development
  • Economic Development
  • International Awareness and Involvement
  • Physical and Mental Health
  • Political Awareness and Involvement

Economic Development

Financial Fortitude - The committee will educate members and community on goal setting, financial planning, budgeting, debt management, savings and investments, retirement planning, homeownership, insurance, estate planning, and entrepreneurship.  These topics are covered in seminars, workshops and monthly tips during the year.

Educational Development

The Educational Development Committee is responsible for implementing public service programs centered on the Sorority’s educational programmatic thrust through Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S., and E.M.B.O.D.I.

International Awareness and Involvement

Committed to broadening the community’s understanding of nations other than their own, NHCAC develops programming to increase interest and awareness in international affairs, and aid in developing a greater appreciation for people of different diversities and cultures.

Physical and Mental Health

Our Physical & Mental Health Committee works to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of lifestyle changes that affect longevity, morbidity, and mortality, identify organizational alliances that will work to address pertinent health issues; and develop and implement health-focused programs within the sorority and the communities we serve.

Political Awareness and Involvement (Social Action)

NHCAC embodies the Sorority’s commitment to social activism through public education on policy; voter registration; education; and mobilization in the communities we serve. We engage local, state, and national lawmakers to make them aware of issues impacting our communities and hold them accountable for improving the lives of those in the areas we serve.

Other Programs

North Harris County Alumnae’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) focuses on serving as a reliable resource for its membership and the community.
